We follow a curriculum,
which will enable all children to make maximum progress towards
national standards and beyond. A standard assessment test
is used based on content from both the national curriculum
and external examining bodies. Internal assessments are used
to evaluate the children’s attainment. Children who
achieve above the expected level are given further opportunity
to extend their knowledge, understanding and skills. Emphasis
is placed upon the child’s ability within their class.
Early emphasis is placed
on literacy and numeracy together with the development of
spiritual, personal and social skills. The curriculum is delivered
through the traditional and Montessori methodology. The small
class structure (14 – 1) enables daily assessment of
each child’s work and attitude. Apart from the core
subjects of English, Maths and Science, the curriculum includes
other Humanity subjects like The Arts, Geography, History,
IT, French, Reasoning, Music, Personal, Social and Bible Studies.
INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
All our classrooms are networked to the School server
in the School’s main computed centre, which is the hub
of the system. From reception, children are taught the basics
of computing and from year 1 to year 6 they are taught desk-top
publishing, reference retrieval, internet skills, spreadsheets
and more. The School has 15 of the most powerful and up-to-date
computers available.
MUSIC
There is a particularly strong tradition
of music in the School. All pupils
from Reception to Year 6 enjoy class music lessons where all
can learn to appreciate music and play a variety of instruments.
Pupils from year 1 to year 6 who wish to do individual tuitions
in a large range of instruments taught by a peripatetic teacher.
About two thirds of the children learn at lest one instrument.
